3/2/2023 0 Comments Disk doctor cleaning fluidThe high freq really came alive, the guitar strings really ring. I skipped the VPI fluid pre-rinse on a LP 1st side and noticed a big difference with the second side when I played it after the full 3 steps. Play and be blown away! I find waiting 24+ hours after cleaning to play a LP works for me it will sound better if you wait! add LAST record preservative once LP is dry. At this point I rinse the wand with distilled water.ĩ. add yet more distilled water, let rotate about 4-6 times rotation. add distilled water, with Last applicator, let rotate about 4-6 times.ħ. Scrub DD fluid with DD brush 2, squeegee most of the suds off.why vacuum suds! (rinse brush with distilled water after this step)ĥ. Pre-scrub with VPI fluid/Distilled water with DD brush 1 (rinse brush with distilled water after this step)Ĥ. Compressed air to remove dust/debris from LP before cleaning, I use a record cloth as well on the label/vinyl very lightly though just to get the top layer of dust/debris off.Ģ. Keeps the machine clean IMO> I use 2 mats as well.(cork with frosted inner sleeve applied to top)ġ. If I notice the suds are blown/grey after step 4, I repeat step 4/5/6.įor those dirty garage/flee market finds, I hose down the vinyl in a laundry tub before it hits the VPI machine. A Stereo retail buddie told me I was "killing my LPs with Kindness", but he has a VPI 17 that he has never used! I don’t play a record unless I clean it first no matter whether it’s a new LP or an older one! But one (cleaning) is all you need to do! I do vacuum each LP side 3 times! It takes me about 15 mins to clean 1 side of an LP. My LPs are dead quiet between the grooves unless there is wear to the vinyl. Below is my method!Įveryone seems to have a variation of a method. After years cleaning records I have found Nirvania as my records are DEAD quiet unless there was damage to the playing surface/noisy pressing. Per mfg recommendation I dilute.but squeegy up the suds on the surface of the lp then add dis-water and vacuum, and repeat the water!! Just like washing your hair.rinse twice! I use light pressure on the brushes but use the back/forth motion as recommended then I proceed to go in both directions for a few revolutions (4-6). Do you stop the VPI turntable and lean on the brush to scrub or do you use light pressure and let the turntable continue to spin?Īppreciate any tips that you can pass along. In some cases I am hearing more noise than there was previously - which tells me my cleaning regiment needs some workĪlso - with respect to the DD brushes - how much pressure do you apply when cleaning (assuming you use a VPI or similar) and for the rinse cycle. So far - I have cleaned about a dozen LP's using the good doctors full strength fluid and the supplied VPI brush - followed by 2 distilled rinses - which has not resulted in sonic nirvana. Q: For those that use this stuff - do you dilute this so called "full strength" version down to the recommended strength (2 parts cleaner to one part distilled water) into the little 4 oz bottle that is supplied in the kit - or do you use it full monty when cleaning?įWIW: I will be using the DD system in conjunction with my new VPI 16.5. Prior to getting the full kit - about 3 months back - I nabbed a 32oz bottle of the MRC in super concentrated form - where you have to fill the bottle up to a line to make 32oz of "full strength" cleaner. Finally got the Disc Doctor's cleaning kit in today - brushes, pads and 16oz of the Miracle Record Cleaner.
